This Comp is Sick

"Daly City (that's the mighty Mochipet and crew) goes all glitched out, classy, and up-beat. Twenty cuts of laid back yacht hop tweaked through the prism of Schematic or Skam, but with distinctive west coast vibe that recalls Deep Concentration-era Om. Stand out cuts from Eustachion and Edit but all the material from Spaceheater, Mophono, Daedelus, and Mr. Mochi himself is sure to bring a smile. This is the record of your next gallery opening and/or backyard barbecue. If both Burt Bacharach and MF Doom are there. Quality." -Matt Earp

Bring it Back....ini

Term papers have exhausted all of my writing abilities (not that they were ever that special). All I have to say is they hail from the U.K. which adds to this blog's ever growing Euro hip-hop influence. Myspace? yea, your turn.

"Backini began in 2004 with the release of first album 'Threads' (Lumenessence Recordings). The album was produced by Rob Quickenden using random old samples carefully nicked from charity shop records. This randomness led to a quirky, off-beat style with lots of humour and a slightly dark edge, especially when layered with fat beats, bass and synth sounds. A classic album was born and did not leave many peoples stereos for that entire summer." (http://www.myspace.com/backiniband)

Some more trip-hop for skeptics

“Sixtoo (aka Six Vicious, Speakerbruiser) is the main project of a Canadian hip-hop DJ, MC and producer Vaughn Robert Squire. He was born in 1978 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He came out of the mid-90's underground hip-hop sharing the stage with such notable Canadian hip-hop artists like Buck 65, Sebutones and members of the Anticon crew. This period lasted until he moved to Montreal in 2000 where he signed on with UK based label Vertical Form Records. In 2003 he signed to Ninja Tune Records. He has since focused his career on a remix project named Megasoid with Wolf Parade member Hadji Baraka.” (Wiki)

Happy Hip Hop

"Kormac's debut solo release (The Scratch Marchin' EP) was released worldwide in 2007 and sold out 2 re-presses having received support from established DJs and stations. His Good Lord EP was released in March 08 and fuses much sampling of 20/30/40s gospel music with live trumpet, scratching, banjo and a barbershop quartet. It has already picked up plays in clubs all over the world. Kormac is currently working on his debut album and remix productions." (http://www.myspace.com/djkormac)

Goddamn that DJ made my day.

I must admit I am very new to critiquing DJs and such. I will keep this brief. I know what I like and this shit is ill. You may recognize "I've got that tune" from my previous post because it was used for the mix. Enjoy!

Chillllllll

I admit it I'm a complete sucker when Jazz and Hip Hop fuse together. What we got here is a 35 minute long track which is seamlessly weaves together jazzy hip hop mixes from different DJs. Kick back and groove on this one, I already am. Hmm, I'm thinking of an alcoholic beverage.....

My Respect for The French is Growing.

During my eight day drought, I was contemplating long and hard what album I would post that would fit right in. Thats a lie. I have been slacking on my blog frequency and I stumbled upon this album yesterday. It didn't take long for me to realize, however, that it's a good one. Wow, it flows nicely with the other two. Time to kick back and listen to more jams and see if I get lucky again.
